Very thought provoking and great article! I really liked your interpretation on how multiple perspectives can lead to liberation. In modern society, multiple perspectives can often feel like an entrapment, the theme of "Hell is other people". Yet, their adoption of POVs from dogs and birds etc. in the beginning and slowly introducing everyday people show NJs own transformation toward this liberation and comfort in transparency.

The Pinocchio theme of being inside the whale resembles that lizard scene and your interpretation of the water.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Hyeyeon! A theme that runs throughout the NewJeansverse is relatability. The girls are almost never depicted in a way that alienates them from viewers in a superior or authoritative way. Had the camera work insisted on recording the girls from only a certain angle, thus mediating a highly controlled and non-transparent version of the quintet, we wouldn’t feel so attached. That being said, I find your comparison to Pinocchio quite interesting! Didn’t really think about how the “swallowing” device could be present in other creative works.

I like it! Apart from all their creative endeavors, I always find their balance of introducing 'meta' so creative. From a brand perspective, NJ is placed both within and outside us. Somewhere you can't define. They are spectators, idols, and everyday friends, and they just show that they are aware of these interplay, and simply stop there IMO. It almost makes this 'meta' not their concept/brand (i.e. This can be a non-transparent and highly controlled branding of 'meta') but a product of their aesthetic exploration. Thank you for your great writing and I look forward to reading more!

Nice interpretation. Apparently it was filmed in Taiwan, not Korea. (In fact, many of their summer MVs are filmed abroad - Spain, Portugal...) That adds another layer of freedom from a toxic patriarchal corporate culture at Hybe...
